ArtWalk: Jimmy Chiale
Born in Paris, France 1987, Jimmy was enchanted at a young age with the idea of living like Picasso; in his studio surrounded by paintings and people who would engage in conversation over his work.

He immersed into drawing at a very young age. Starting with simple Disney and comic book characters. He knew fell in love with drawing and felt reassured that this was what he was meant to do. When Jimmy moved to Toronto in 2006 he experimented with different techniques, mediums and surfaces. Since then he has been commissioned to paint indoor and outdoor murals, skateboards, longboards, shoes and clothes.

He has worked cooperatively with various artists and musicians over the past 8 years and has found his own sense of style. He is influenced by everyday life, strong feelings of love, anger, happiness and sadness. He feels compelled to paint daily and therefore starts one or two paintings every day. He is obsessed with abstract composition and texture. He says his paintings are windows of the mind and come from the subconscious soul. Many of his paintings have eyes, which he says are all connected somehow and a symbol of our society today.

JIMMY CHIALE'S vivid canvases are a mash up of emotional construction of symbols and representations. His works are an immediate reaction to his environment and daily life, an imprint of his identity at that moment in time. JimmyChiale.ca

ArtWalk: Marc My Canvas
Growing up I wasn’t headed in any particular direction and was clueless as to what I wanted to do with my life. As time went on I found my direction; but unfortunately that was down. Using my creative attributes I can only imagine I received from my father who was a talented artist from Italy I began to paint. I started using bright colours to brighten my mood and found a passion for the art. As with my life I have learned techniques and lessons as I go by making mistakes along the way. When I paint I feel as though I am free to express myself and my moods without being judged, and if I can help brighten somebody else’s day with my art then even better. My paintings may not be in perfect proportion but then again neither is life. I can see the beauty in all art and just want to share a piece of my new found happiness with the world.

ArtWalk: Constanza Oquendo

on Friday, 22 August 2014. Posted in ArtWalk

Constanza Oquendo was born in Caracas, Venezuela, in 1988. Her innate creativity and interest in fashion was noticeable at a very early age. After finishing high school, Constanza was enrolled at Monteavila University where she majored in Communications, a career that comprises journalism, advertising and audiovisual. During her third year of college, she returned to her first love and enrolled in a basic tailoring and pattern-making course.

While still studying, Constanza began oper- ating a small sewing workshop. Her talent and creativity were immediately apparent to all who visited the apartment/studio.

Upon completing her University studies and receiving her bachelor’s degree, Constanzadevoted all of her energy to building her own fully integrated fashion company.

Amazingly, at age twenty-five, she is now the founder, owner, and creative director of Constanza Oquendo. Since then, four collections have been released to the market in just over a year and a half, and her brand has become a fashion reference in Venezuela. Modestly and gratefully, she attributes her success to numerous favorable print articles and the opportunity for personal appearances in print, televi- sion and digital media.
